Comikaze 2014

This last weekend I got to attend my first LA convention, Stan Lee's Comikaze! It's funny how it came about actually because I wasn't even aware of it until a week or so before when I got hired to work its media and professional registration. Once I learned what type of convention I was working, I immediately got tickets for the last day, Sunday, for my family to attend together as my dad was flying in from Florida Saturday night.

The first two days I never got further than the registration booths. I arrived bright and early in the morning at 7:30am sharp and worked overtime into the evening. Both days were SUPER busy. At times, the lines seemed never ending. By the end of the day, I was beyond exhausted. And yes, this means I spent my Halloween inside with my sister eating meatloaf and watching Community's "Epidemiology" episode and missing any and all parties occurring over the weekend. I wasn't too disappointed, however, because despite how tiring and non-stop the job was, it was also a lot of fun and I met some great people along the way.

On to my one actual day of experiencing the convention.... my family and I arrived around 11:30 to the convention center and our first stop? The John Barrowman panel. I have met John several times at Comic Con and have been to many of his panels and he is always hilarious, full of energy, and so warm to his fans. His panel was nothing short of expectation and a great way to start off the con.

Afterwards, we got lunch from the nearby food trucks. The two grilled cheese trucks seemed to be the most popular and both had about a 30 minute wait. I had gotten a delicious buffalo chicken grilled cheese sandwich from the Oh My Gaga truck earlier in the week so decided to go the healthy route and got a chicken wrap.

Once we got back, my dad and sister went to check out the exhibit hall while I went to the Crunchyroll panel. Their brand managers walked you through a normal day of working at Crunchyroll and talked about what its like working in the anime industry. It was a fun and informative panel and basically described a dream job for me: you get to travel to Japan and go to tons of conventions promoting anime?? Sign me up! If only I lived in San Francisco...

Left - this sign made me laugh // Right - my dad proudly sporting his Spock shirt and my lovely sister

Finally, I made my way to the exhibit hall and explored the many booths and vendors. I didn't purchase anything (although my sister did get a Gryffindor scarf from the Whimsic Alley booth) but it was fun to walk around. Near closing time, I couldn't help but take pictures with some of the many awesome cosplayers. I considered dressing up to make up for my lack of a Halloween but it was a little too cold for me that morning. Pictures below are all courtesy of my dad and sister.

That wraps up my first LA convention and first Comikaze! Looking forward to many more!

Anyone else go to Comikaze?

September 2014 Favorites

I recorded this early to mid-September to have ready by the end of the month since it was too late for an August Favorites video (and yet, I'm still posting it late -__-) so sorry if some of the things are no longer relevant (I don't think Guardians is in theaters anymore whoops) and that I kept saying "August Favorites" D: I thought about not posting it at all, but figured "hey, why not?" - it's the first video in my new apartment even if you can't really see anything... Last week was my birthday and I recorded a bunch of videos so I'm currently in an editing frenzy! Look for another video in a few days!! ^^

My Comic Con Schedule

Yes, it's that glorious time of the year once again! COMIC CON is upon us!!

This will be my EIGTH San Diego Comic Con since I started attending with my family back in 2007. What started out as a high school graduation gift has become an annual family tradition that I look forward to each year.

Here's my tentative Comic Con schedule for the next 4.5 days! If you're also going to the con, leave a comment or tweet me @winesosirius and say hi!

If all goes well, I'll be camped out inside Hall H all day and seeing panels for two of my favorite shows:
The Walking Dead
Game of Thrones

2013 People's Choice Awards: Top 5 Best Dressed

I did not get a chance to catch this year's People's Choice Awards- but due to my sister's insistence that I bring back my regular red carpet Best and Worst Dressed lists (and with awards season in full swing now, I guess it's perfect timing)- here I am with my thoughts on the night's fashion. Overall, I wasn't too impressed - I couldn't come up with a full Top 10 Best Dressed list so I cut it down to five - hopefully, the Golden Globes gives me a little more to work with!

Although before I start, a few thoughts: 1) I looked up the PCA Winners list and, my goodness, is there an awards show that has more categories?? 2) SO much Gravity love going on - almost too much…but I love Alfonso Cuaron and the movie was great so it's all good with me. 3) Beauty and the Beast won Best Sci-fi/ Fantasy TV Show over The Walking Dead and Supernatural?? What kind of fans does this show have? I saw a screening of the show at Comic Con last year and thought it was one of the worst pilots I've ever seen - I'm not exaggerating or trying to be harsh and I do like Kristin Kruek - maybe the show gets a lot better, I don't know, but I'm BAFFLED. 4) Moving on, seeing Sam, Dean, and Castiel win Best TV Bromance made me happy. Okay, on to the list!

#1 - Jessica Alba - Jason Wu
This dress has bandage details, a full-length zipper down the front of the dress, and lacing all down the sides…in theory, this could've turned out really trashy, but instead it's super chic, sexy, and even classy. LOVE IT! Way to go, Jess!

#2 - Jennifer Hudson - Kaufmanfranco
JHud kills it in a fierce white hot dress. Sleek, effortless, and super flattering - what's not to love?

#3 - Allison Williams - David Koma
Chic, youthful, and totally appropriate for the award show, I'm super intrigued by this initially simple-looking dress and it's futuristic detailing.  Although if this were any other color than that amazing blue that matches her eyes so well, I probably wouldn't have liked it quite as much.

#4 - Alyssa Campanella -
I have no clue who she is (Google says she won Miss America - cool), but this dress is lovely. I know it's all about the midi trend right now and yeah, it might be a bit too formal for the occasion, but I'm a sucker for long beautiful gowns in a nice color.

#5 - Beth Behrs - Giulietta
In a night full of midis and prints, this simple and elegant black and white gown was a refreshing stand out even if it wasn't the biggest risk-taker.

Who were your favorites?
