February & March MyGlam Bag

My camera's been broken since February so I've had to hold off on a lot posts that require me taking personal pictures (except for my Spring Break pictures since my dad took those) BUT I've just come into possession of a camera, for however long, and can finally bombard you all with the dozens of outfits of the day and beauty product reviews that I've been dying to post.

First order of business with this new camera was to show you all what I got in my February and March MyGlam bag! The February bag arrived a week later than my Birchbox, but the March bag actually came in a day earlier than the Birchbox so hopefully they are indeed working out their logistics.

February

I love the metallic pink mail packaging MyGlam uses. It definitely stands out in the mail! The bag had a simple pattern of little hearts on it to celebrate Valentine's Day. The quality isn't great, it feels cheap and mass produced like something from Dollar Tree. I don't hate it, but I was hoping for something a little higher quality.

  • X Out Shine Control - An oil-free moisturizer that helps to eliminate shine.  I can't wait to try this out on one of my occasional "shiny" days. Decent amount of product too which is nice.
  • NYX Roll On Shimmer in Sea Foam - I know some people love NYX. I just wish I had received some other product from them. I used to be all about the roll on shimmer when I was maybe 8, but now all I can think of is Keisha. Maybe I'll save it for a day when I have to dress up as a fairy or something. I do like the color.
  • Premier Dead Sea Cinderella Mask & Eye Cream - This mask is supposed to "transform" your skin by firming wrinkles and tightening lines. There's only enough product for one use, but I'm looking forward to trying these out.
  • NuMe Professional Styling Tools and Hair Extensions $100 Gift Card - I immediately went looking for fine print that said I had to spend at least $200 but, shockingly, there was none! Wow! I've heard good things about NuMe tools and the reviews on the site look great so I'm really excited to use this. I'm currently eyeing the curling wands since I don't own one, but the flat irons look so tempting...
  • Freeman Facial Mask Sachets in Goji Berry - I feel more hydrated just by looking and touching the pouch and can't wait to pamper myself with this mask after a long all-nighter.
  • BONUS: two pieces of Ghirardelli chocolate - I don't care for dark chocolate, but the milk chocolate was yummy (:

March

March's makeup bag is a bit more durable than February's. The outside feels like canvas while the inside is a vinyl reminding me of a picnic table cover. I'm not really a fan of the flower print, but it definitely is "Spring-y."

  • Pur-Lisse Pur-Protect SPF 30 Essential Daily Moisturizer - Seems like an all-around good daily moisturizer that could even be used as a sunscreen (if you had a little more than this tiny pouch, of course).
  • Murad Eye Lift Perfector - Such a tiny sample! I wish there was a little more because I am always in need of something to cover my constant dark circles - eek!
  • DermStore $25 Gift Card - Okay, so this is what I'm more used to - to use this "gift card" you first have to spend at least $50. Sigh.
  • Pur-lisse Pur-Lip Comfort Daily Lip Nourisher - My favorite product of the bunch! My lips have been really dry lately and this gives incredible moisture and hydration to them. I love that it's pretty much a full-sized product and is made from natural ingredients like fruit butters and vegetable oils.
  • Keracolor Color Enhancing Leave-in Treatment - So many "natural" products! No complaints here though. I have colored hair (currently colored to my natural hair color) so I'm curious to see how it "enhances" it.
  • MyGlam Exclusive Classic Crease Brush & Case - The brush is decent and I like that it's pink (: The case makes a nice travel brush holder.
After these two bags, I have to say I'm a little disappointed with MyGlam. Thanks to the NuMe gift card and Pur-Liss Lip Nourisher I still feel like I'm getting my $10 worth, but I'd like to see bigger samples and more customization to the bags. Every bag seems to have the same products and one of my favorite things about beauty box subscriptions is seeing what different items everyone gets. I'm glad MyGlam has figured out its shipping problems for the time being, but they really need to step up what they're sending out - I get so excited seeing that pink package only to be somewhat let down :( I'll give them another month to change my mind... at least there's always Birchbox!

Are any of you guys subscribed to MyGlam? What do you think? Am I expecting too much?

Pink & Blue

blue-liner-swatch
barry-m-blue-liner
Revlon Photo ready foundation, collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer, Sleek Blush in Rose Gold, Barry M 19 eyeliner, Ardell demi wispies lashes, MAC Please me lipstick, Maybelline the one mascara.

I bought this for a flash of colour for the summer, this would look really pretty in the waterline or if you wanted a bolder look you could line around the whole eye like I have done!

I started by lining my whole eye and then blended it out a little with a blending brush. I then applied some false lashes and plenty of mascara on the bottom lashes. I used MAC Please me on the lips as it is a pretty pink which I think compliments this look well.

I'm really impressed with this eyeliner, it feels creamy and blends pretty well for a liner. I wore this all day and it lasted really well, its such a lovely colour and really well pigmented.

Natural Collection Eyeshadows

White Opal - Lilac shimmer - Sky
Natural collection from boots is a really affordable, good quality Make up brand. These eyeshadows were only £1.99 each and as you can hopefully see from the swatches, they are well pigmented and such pretty colours!

If I want to do a Make up look, It can get a bit much each time splashing out on a new MAC eyeshadow that I wouldn't normally wear, I think these are a great resolution as there
are lots of colours to choose from and for £1.99, you can't really go wrong!

The only downside to these eyeshadows is the packaging, its very plasticy and cheap feeling, but then considering the value of the eyeshadow and the fact that the quality is so good, then I think the packaging doesn't really matter that much!

Have you tried these?

Recently I feel so pulled into all the new, exciting products that are out at the moment that I feel I have neglected a lot of my old make up.
To resolve this, this week I did a massive sort out, got rid of lots of old make up and organised everything neatly into my glossybox boxes. Hopefully now I can use up what I have rather than buying more and more of what I dont really need. Don't get me wrong, I still NEED to try revlon lip butters lol and I'm sure I'll try new things now and again but I'm trying to be a bit more frugal :)

I'm excited about re-discovering products and looking forward to seeing the Hunger Games this Friday! I'm also really addicted to Draw Some at the moment, my username is MisSophie7 if anyone wants to play!

Instagram Diaries #4: Spring Break Edition

Here are just a few instagram pictures from my Spring Break trip to Kansas with my family!
  1. The iconic KU Jayhawk! Don't ask me why it's wearing Pilgrim shoes.
  2. Sitting in the fifth row, we had an amazing view of the court!
  3. My sister and I sitting in the stands decked out in KU gear.
  4. A nice shot from the start of the game.
  5. The crowd was AMAZING! KU students/fans sure do love their basketball! I'd definitely be intimidated if I were the opposing team.
  6. We visited my dad's childhood home in Neodasha. He says it's stayed relatively unchanged since he was a boy. Except for the satellite dish on the front lawn, of course.
  7. While in Neodasha, we also paid respects to my great grandmother and my Nana who recently passed away. If you look at the bottom right of the bottom tombstone, you'll see a little blue Jayhawk in honor of her sons who both went to KU.
  8. Coming home, I snagged this Delta SKY magazine for the sole reason that Jennifer Lawrence was on the cover. My sister called me a creeper. I just love my JLaw.
What did you guys do for Spring Break?

VS PINK Collegiate Showdown: VOTE FOR FSU!!

Last week, voting started for the VS Pink Collegiate Showdown!

What is it, you ask? The Pink Nation Collegiate Showdown is a bracket-style voting competition during which students from across the nation vote to determine which campus gets to host the fall annual PINK Back to School Bash, an evening hosted by PINK in honor of the school that wins the Collegiate Showdown. PINK brings tons of games, great prizes, models, and musical talent to the winning campus and throws the party of the year! Past events have featured Drake at West Virginia University (2010) and Kid Cudi with Girl Talk at the University of Illinois (2011).

Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? To vote, sign up for a PINK Nation account and log in EVERY DAY to vote (you can ONCE PER DAY). You also have the option to TEXT your vote! It’s really that easy.

This year, “Power Hours” are being introduced during which YOUR VOTE COUNTS DOUBLE so definitely remember to vote during that specific hour those days!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk

Spring Break to me has always been about spending time with family and this last one (THE last one of my college years) was no different. To start the week off, my dad, sister, and I flew out to Kansas to see the KU vs Texas basketball game. While I am a FSU Seminole all the way, I’ve grown up with a strong devotion to KU thanks to my dad. He graduated from KU and, even though he’s not a big sports fan by any means, one of his favorite hobbies has always been following KU basketball. I can remember watching and cheering on KU with him for as long as I can remember. Next to completing his airplane, another life dream for him was to take his daughters to a KU game. And this Spring Break, he did just that.

We drove around the KU campus where my dad reminisced and showed us where he got thrown into the fountain on his birthday and the fraternity house he used to live in. The campus was beautiful and very well maintained.  I was particularly impressed with the architecture of the buildings. To prepare for the game, we stopped by the Student Union and bought some KU gear. Fun fact: The beanie I bought was the same one Olivia Wilde wore when she and Jason Sudeikis went to a KU game not too long ago. With our game attire taken care of, we went to a restaurant called The Noodle Company for lunch (Tallahassee needs to get one of these!) and browsed a super cute shop that sold British memorabilia before checking into our room at the Howard Johnson.

After a quick nap, we headed out to the legendary Allen Fieldhouse. It felt so surreal being somewhere I’ve seen so many times on TV growing up. We came about an hour early, but the student sections were already packed and bursting with school spirit.

The game was wasn’t one of KU’s bests but it was still fun and exciting. They ended up winning (of course) 73-63. It was Senior’s Night so pretty much every KU fan stayed to hear the Senior speeches. Afterwards, my family and I stayed around for my dad to take pictures (See below). We were really happy we managed to get an autograph and photo on the court with Connor Teahan then even more thrilled when we realized all of the players were coming out to meet fans. They were all very nice and courteous and took the time to take pictures and sign autographs. My dad was so excited to meet Tyshawn Taylor he couldn’t stop talking as I took their picture!

Overall, a great start to Spring Break and a very memorable experience that I know neither my dad or I will never forget. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

March Harrods Glossybox

March's Glossybox:

I was so excited to get this box, the postman even asked me what it was as he had delivered so many!

Overall I'm really happy with my box this month. I was a bit disappointed with the perfume size sample as it seems all the other perfume samples this month were in a cute glass bottle - this is a standard tiny plastic spray tube!
The YSL serum looks amazing, I think it might be meant for older skin but I still can't wait to try it! The burberry lipstick is in the shade rosewood which looks quite dark but is a pretty color.
Whenever I think about cancelling my subscription, Glossybox put out a really good box! I think I'll stay put with Glossybox for the moment, Ican't wait to see what they have next month!
Did anyone else get Glossybox this month?

I've found some great bargins this week including this grey t-shirt dress in Primark, it looks so similar to the Topshop one but is a lot cheaper at only £8, I also got these No7 wipes with my boots £5 off No7 voucher, it takes them down to £2 and they are my favourite ever make up wipes!
I am SO excited that Breaking Dawn pt 1 is out on DVD tomorrow, I've been catching up on Twilight and New moon and I'm just settling down to watch Eclipse now!

2012 Grammys: Best Dressed (Belated)

I know the Grammys were some time ago, but I just couldn't help myself to make another Best Dressed list. The show is usually an outrageous fashion train wreck (and there were still plenty of those), but the ladies really stepped it up this year! Here are my favorite looks:

 #1 - Rihanna - Giorgio Armani
Glamorous and fierce (and SO Grammy's appropriate), it's been a long time since I've seen Rihanna look this good!

#2 - Taylor Swift - Zuhair Murad
Stepping out of her comfort zone in a much more 'adult' gown, Taylor still looked as beautiful and fashion forward as ever.

 #3 - Kate Beckinsale - Zuhair Murad
Kate showed off her amazing body in this simple but still elegant silk mini dress.

 #4 - Carrie Underwood - Gomez Gracia
Carrie definitely shone in this sparkly gown - LOVE the back!

#5 - Adele - Giorgio Armani
So happy for her! She looked amazing and, deservedly, won 6 Grammys!!

 #6 - Julianne Hough - Kaufman Franco

#7 - Hillary Scott - Monique Lhullier

 #8 - Kathy Griffin - Unknown

#9 - Kelly Osbourne - Tony Ward

#10 - Guiliana Rancic - Georges Chakra Couture

Worst Dressed lists coming up!

2012 Oscars: Best Dressed

Has it really been a month since I last posted?? Wow, I had no idea it'd been so long! February was a crazy month with me starting my new job at BCBG, promoting 3 VSPink events, taking exams, transferring everything to a new computer and having to do it all while dealing with an annoying sore throat/cough that won't go away. Thankfully, Spring Break has arrived, which means I'll have some time to rest up and get better as well as catch up on my blogging. There are SO many things I've been wanting to write about so expects lots of posts during the next week and hopefully I can get back to regularly blogging this month.

About a week and a half ago was the biggest fashion event of the awards season - the Academy Awards! So it only made sense that my first post after a month-long hiatus be its Best Dressed list. I wasn't overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but one thing I really liked was the variety of looks we saw on the red carpet although white was definitely the trend of the night.

 #1 - Jessica Chastain - Alexander McQueen

#2 - Gwyneth Paltrow - Tom Ford

#3 - Maria Menounos - Maria Lucia Hohan

 #4 - Leslie Mann - Roberto Cavalli

 #5 - Angelina Jolie - Atelier Versace

#6 - Ellie Kemper - Armani Prive

#7 - Stacy Keibler - Marchesa

 #8 - Milla Jovovich - Elie Saab

 #9 - Octavia Spencer - Tadashi Shoji

#10 - Natalie Portman - Vintage Dior
