2015 Golden Globes Best Dressed

The Golden Globes happened this past week and with that we are officially in awards season! As usual, I did not catch the live broadcast, but instead stayed up to date on all the red carpet goodness and winners through Twitter.  Highlights for me included: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting because they are flawless and should host everything and, yes, women can be funny; Gina Rodriguez's win for Jane the Virgin because she's a wonderfully charming actress in a wonderfully charming and underrated show and the win was totally deserved (and historical! as it was the CW's first ever Globe win); How To Train Your Dragon 2's win for Best Animated Feature because while I do LOVE me some The Lego Movie, this movie was just magical and gave me all the feels; and Matt Bomer's win because it gave me the opportunity to see more of Matt Bomer. Anyway, this is a fashion post, so let's talk fashion. Here are my totally random top picks for Best Dressed at the Golden Globes.

Emma Stone - Lanvin
Not sure how I feel about that giant bow/cape thing, but it does add something and leave it to Emma to always try something different and look fashion forward and fresh. I wouldn't love this nearly as much if it were dress.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum - Carolina Herrera
I'm surprised how much I loved the color yellow at the Globes. Also surprised at how much I love this dress as the shape is a little odd especially around the middle. I think Jenna's just really working it, the contrast with her dark hair is fantastic.

 Reese Witherspoon - Calvin Klein
Simple, classic, elegant - very Reese.

 Naomi Watts - Gucci
New trend alert! Snake necklaces are in (Kate Beckinsale also rocked one at the AMAs) as is the aforementioned color yellow.

 Lupita Nyong'o - Giambattista Valli
I love how much fun Lupita has with her red carpet fashion choices, especially when it comes to color! You know she's always going to pop and look lovely in whatever she wears and this was no exception. Such a show stopper. Also her, makeup is divine.

Leslie Mann - KAUFMANFRANCO
More yellow! Love the surprise pop of green in the earrings and clutch!

Kate Beckinsale - Elie Saab
Kate looks gorgeous as usual. I love the sparkly top, the flawy bottom, and the accessories (big earrings are a guilty pleasure of mine even if not always flattering). My favorite little detail are the black nails - something so small yet I feel like it just elevates the look to another level.

Amy Adams - Atelier Versace
Super safe - I feel like she's worn something like this many times before, but the color is just oh so perfect on her.

2014 AMAs Top 5 Best Dressed

Overall, fashion at the 2014 American Music Awards were a disappointment with too many tacky outfits, however, the few ensembles I did like were gems. Also, if this awards show is any indication, the spray tan salons of LA will be doing very well this winter.

#1 - Selena Gomez (performance) - Giorgio Armani
Selena's red carpet look was a rare miss for her in my eyes (what happened, girl?), but she made it up to me and then some with this stunning blush-colored gown during the show. It has an ethereal but subdued quality to it that was perfect for her emotionally raw and haunting performance. Also loved the soft, neutral makeup and simple half-up, half-down hair. Hands-down, my favorite look of the night.

#2 - Taylor Swift - Michael Kors
I can always count on Taylor to stun on the red carpet. I absolutely adore what the emerald green is doing for her, really complementing her flawless hair and makeup. Taylor is known for her girly and feminine looks, but I like how this shows a different, more grown-up side to her, while still being youthful and fresh. I'm not the biggest fan of the illusion neckline but I don't hate it here. Overall, I think she looks super chic and classy.

#3 - Kate Beckinsale - Kaufmanfranco
I was happily surprised to see the forever youthful and beautiful Kate Beckinsale at the AMAs. As I've said in the past, this woman would look gorgeous in a garbage bag and would somehow also make it look elegant, but we've never had to come to that as she also has impeccable style. Kate looked totally on point in her slinky white backless gown with plunging neckline, side cut outs,  statement snake necklace, and high ponytail. This look is the perfect balance of classy and sexy - something Kate excels at and something young Hollywood should take note of.

#4 - Fergie - Halston
Fergie is usually a miss for me, but this is probably one of her best looks yet. She looked glamorous yet edgy in her sleek black gown with it's halter top, high slit, and metallic accents, perfect for the event. I love how the look is balanced with pretty, fresh makeup and long soft waves.

#5 - Karlie Kloss - Pamella Roland
It took me some time to decide who should round out my Top 5 as I wasn't too impressed with many of the other red carpet looks. Upon searching for event pictures of T-Swift, I came across photos of her BFF Karlie wearing this knee-length, crop top 2-piece. It's nothing super innovative, but I like that it's fun and event and age appropriate with it's bit of edge and sexiness.

2013 People's Choice Awards: Top 5 Best Dressed

I did not get a chance to catch this year's People's Choice Awards- but due to my sister's insistence that I bring back my regular red carpet Best and Worst Dressed lists (and with awards season in full swing now, I guess it's perfect timing)- here I am with my thoughts on the night's fashion. Overall, I wasn't too impressed - I couldn't come up with a full Top 10 Best Dressed list so I cut it down to five - hopefully, the Golden Globes gives me a little more to work with!

Although before I start, a few thoughts: 1) I looked up the PCA Winners list and, my goodness, is there an awards show that has more categories?? 2) SO much Gravity love going on - almost too much…but I love Alfonso Cuaron and the movie was great so it's all good with me. 3) Beauty and the Beast won Best Sci-fi/ Fantasy TV Show over The Walking Dead and Supernatural?? What kind of fans does this show have? I saw a screening of the show at Comic Con last year and thought it was one of the worst pilots I've ever seen - I'm not exaggerating or trying to be harsh and I do like Kristin Kruek - maybe the show gets a lot better, I don't know, but I'm BAFFLED. 4) Moving on, seeing Sam, Dean, and Castiel win Best TV Bromance made me happy. Okay, on to the list!

#1 - Jessica Alba - Jason Wu
This dress has bandage details, a full-length zipper down the front of the dress, and lacing all down the sides…in theory, this could've turned out really trashy, but instead it's super chic, sexy, and even classy. LOVE IT! Way to go, Jess!

#2 - Jennifer Hudson - Kaufmanfranco
JHud kills it in a fierce white hot dress. Sleek, effortless, and super flattering - what's not to love?

#3 - Allison Williams - David Koma
Chic, youthful, and totally appropriate for the award show, I'm super intrigued by this initially simple-looking dress and it's futuristic detailing.  Although if this were any other color than that amazing blue that matches her eyes so well, I probably wouldn't have liked it quite as much.

#4 - Alyssa Campanella -
I have no clue who she is (Google says she won Miss America - cool), but this dress is lovely. I know it's all about the midi trend right now and yeah, it might be a bit too formal for the occasion, but I'm a sucker for long beautiful gowns in a nice color.

#5 - Beth Behrs - Giulietta
In a night full of midis and prints, this simple and elegant black and white gown was a refreshing stand out even if it wasn't the biggest risk-taker.

2013 Emmy's Fashion Review

Hey guys! So as usual, I do not have a TV to watch award shows but I DO have Twitter that gives me every little detail the second it happens so it feels like I'm watching it in real time - except there are so many tweets to go through, I'm actually about an hour or so behind so not really. I still got to experience all the ups and down of watching Claire Danes and Modern Family win their respective categories AGAIN (not that it's undeserved or anything, I just like to share the love), Merritt Weaver's hilarious blink and miss it acceptance speech, and overwhelming satisfying feeling of seeing Breaking Bad take home Best Drama (this show is nearly flawless television and in my opinion should win everything).

However, this post is about fashion and that's what we're going to talk about. I usually do a Top 10 Best, sometimes Worst, Dressed List, but this year I found myself commenting on the looks as the pictures showed up on my Twitter feed so I thought I would go ahead and just post my thoughts on a handful of these looks - Parts 2 and 3 will follow. Maybe later I'll round it up for a Top 5 Best and Worst Dressed.

Anna Faris - Monique Lhuillier
Oh Monique (she's my dream wedding dress designer), you make the prettiest gowns. Anna reminds me a little of Emma Stone here (not a bad thing), and I do like the bold yellow color on her but I am not feeling the blunt bangs.

Zooey Deschanel - J. Mendel
Zooey's hair looks so perfect and bouncy (and does anyone else see Alexis Bledel or am I just imagining celebs as other celebs today?), but she can do better than this dress. It's boring, the wrong color, and that thing on the side is so random and tacky. Plus the slit on the side which is supposed to give the conservative-looking dress some sexiness, just looks awkward and unflattering from the side.

Sofia Vergara - Vera Wang
The curve-hugging, plunging neckline, mermaid-flaired silhouette is pretty much Sofia's staple and something we've all seen from her before but she works it SO well so why stop? I do like the added all-over lace detailing and the multi-colored earrings. I usually prefer wavy hair in front of the ears not behind, but I can understand when you're rocking that kind of bling you want to show it off.

Anna Gunn - Romona Keveza
YES YES YES!!! This is what I’m talking about!! STUH-NING!!! Who even knew Skyler White  could look this good?! Love love love!! Hair, makeup, gown, accessories – all a big fat WIN in my book!!

Rose Byrne - Calvin Klein
Woah, someone's gone blonde! I loved her dark locks, but I’m kinda digging this whole look. It’s so…fresh and soft and girly (although can we please a smile? you're so much prettier when you smile, Rose). Although this dress totally looks like something out of Gwyneth Paltrow’s closet – except she would've gone with stick straight hair instead - I really like it. It's polished and sleek with just the right amount of sexiness with the cropped top.

Melissa Rauch - Rubin Singer
Melissa, you are looking so Taylor here with your cute bangs and pretty smile (I swear I'm not doing this on purpose)…except much more miniature and…and I kinda like it. The teal earrings paired with the royal purple are actually really awesome. And while I don't quite like the mesh on the torso, the color is gorgeous against her lovely pale skin and she just looks so put together and pretty.

Jessica Pare
What is this?? Okay, okay, I will admit, I love the color, but EVERYTHING else about this gown... Actually, everything else below the shoulders - those shoes?? WHAT THE--??? No. Top too low, sides too wide, too much crinkled wrinkly-looking material, I don't know what's going on with the torso, and again why those black shoes??

Carrie Underwood - Romona Keveza
Carrie!! You are usually at the top of my Best Dressed list!!! Yes, you do look pretty...but you can do SO much better!! It looks like a prom gown or the dress on your Holiday Barbie! Your hair and makeup are flawless and you look good in this color along with every other color of the rainbow but that still does not excuse this decision...but I guess I'll just let you make it up to me next time.

Elisabeth Moss - Andrew Gn
Beautiful! So simple, chic, and classy, and I love the bright red lips and super blonde hair - probably the best she’s ever looked. I guess I’m feeling the black and white trend tonight.

Heidi Klum - Versace
NO. WHY??? #IHateIt It looks like a blood-covered praying mantis/velociraptor is staring at me on your chest/torso and it’s creeping me out. Also, that cannot be comfortable.

2013 MTV Movie Awards: Best Dressed

Yes, the MTV Movie Awards were last week so this post is a little late but I couldn't help putting together a little best dressed list of my favorite looks from the crazy and unpredictable night.

Kylie Jenner
LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Kylie here manages to look youthful, chic, and sophisticated. I am totally loving the two-piece crop top look and can't wait to give this trend a try once it warms up a bit here in NYC. I also loved how she accessorized the outfit with a gold chunky necklace, simple bracelets, and nude pumps. Perfection.

Selena Gomez - Julien Macdonald
Selena channeled J-Lo in a stunning gold fringed Julien Macdonald mini dress. I like that she tried to change things up a bit with an edgy do' but I can't say I loved it with this look. I would've preferred her usual perfect loose waves, but props for taking a risk.

Emma Watson - Maxine Simoen
The recipient of the "Trailblazer" award stuck to her tried-and-true printed mini dress with black heels  formula, but I can't complain because it's so cute, fun, and flirty.

Holland Roden - Donna Karan
This dress might seem a lot more demure in comparison to a lot of the other crazy and colorful looks on the red carpet, but I love it! It's deceptively simple - but with it's A-line skirt, deep v-neck, and organza paneling, it's fun and young. Combine that with her sleek pushed back hair, fresh-faced makeup, and black and white color-block peeptoes and you've got a killer look!

Karlie Kloss - Cushnie Et Ochs
Again, with the two-piece crop top and pencil skirt look - and, again, I LOVE it!! Like Kylie, Karlie looks oh so chic while showing off her killer body and that top fits her so well it's like a second skin.

Nicole "Snookie" Polizzi - Snooki Couture
I can't believe I wrote that, but it's true - the new mom pulled it together and showed off her post-baby body in a gown from her own collection. Yes, you read that right - Snooki has her own clothing line.

JWoww
Really, another Jersey Shore member? What are you on, Amanda? Alas, while JWoww does seem to be spilling out of the top of her dress, I adore the gown itself. Just stunning.

What did you guys think?

2013 BAFTAs: Best Dressed

I was pretty underwhelmed by the fashion at the BAFTAs, thus, I decided to only post my three favorite looks from the night. I love how they are so different from each other.

 Jessica Chastain – Roland Mouret
Brilliant color on her!

 Anne Hathaway – Burberry
I miss her long hair, but this is so chic!

Jennifer Lawrence – Christian Dior Couture
Love this girly gown on her and that smoky eye is incredible.

2013 Screen Actor's Guild: Best Dressed

The Screen Actor Guild Awards was this past Sunday and here are my favorite looks of the night:

 Nina Dobrev - Elie Saab
I've missed seeing her on the red carpet because, as seen here, she always looks incredible.

 Jennifer Lawrence - Dior
The blue really makes her eyes pop! Love it with that lip color too!

 Kerry Washington - Rodarte
The bodice is beautiful and she looks angelic in white.

Tina Fey - Oscar de la Renta
Another great look, Tina has really stepped it up on the red carpet this year.

 Amanda Seyfried - Zac Posen
The deep blue color looks incredible on her! And that hair!

Amy Poehler - Zuhair Murad
I love everything about this!! The best she's ever looked!

Jennifer Garner - Oscar de la Renta
She looks divine in this gold beaded gown.

 Naomi Watts - Marchesa
The detail of the gown is gorgeous!

2012 Emmys: Best Dressed

Hey guys, long time no see! Sorry this is becoming a pattern but believe me when I say I am dealing with some intense personal issues right now that definitely merit the time off from blogging. However, I'm making a quick return because the Emmys were Sunday night (like I need another distraction from doing my homework) and, thus, I had to, of course, do my obligatory Best Dressed list because, as a huge TV fan, the Emmys is an awards show I somewhat care what the results are - and, yes, I realize there are wayyy too many commas in that last sentence haha.

I wasn't as in love with this year's red carpet fashion as I was last year's (of course, last year had Nina Dobrev who just makes any red carpet that much better), but there still plenty of standout looks. Color was definitely a big trend of the night. My favorite being blues and teals. Orange and yellow were also popular colors, but as you can tell from the absence save one on my list, it wasn't a huge hit to me.

Sidenote: Congrats to Homeland and Modern Family on all the wins, but if it were up to me, Breaking Bad (a big ol' freaking congrats to Aaron Paul for Best Supporting, Drama, btw) and Community (still can't believe it wasn't even nominated) would have swept the drama and comedy categories, respectively. But anyway...on to the fashion!

#1 - Heidi Klum - Alexandre Vauthier

#2 - Tina Fey - Vivienne Westwood

#3 - Sarah Hyland - Marchesa

#4 - Zooey Deschanel - Reem Akra

#5 - Kristen Wiig - Balenciaga

#6 - Jessica Pare - Jason Wu

#7 - Giuliana Rancic - Rafael Cennamo

#8 -Sofia Vergara - Zuhair Muhrad

#9 - Padma Lakshmi - Monique Lhullier

#10 - Hayden Panettiere - Marchesa
