2013 Screen Actor's Guild: Best Dressed

The Screen Actor Guild Awards was this past Sunday and here are my favorite looks of the night:

 Nina Dobrev - Elie Saab
I've missed seeing her on the red carpet because, as seen here, she always looks incredible.

 Jennifer Lawrence - Dior
The blue really makes her eyes pop! Love it with that lip color too!

 Kerry Washington - Rodarte
The bodice is beautiful and she looks angelic in white.

Tina Fey - Oscar de la Renta
Another great look, Tina has really stepped it up on the red carpet this year.

 Amanda Seyfried - Zac Posen
The deep blue color looks incredible on her! And that hair!

Amy Poehler - Zuhair Murad
I love everything about this!! The best she's ever looked!

Jennifer Garner - Oscar de la Renta
She looks divine in this gold beaded gown.

 Naomi Watts - Marchesa
The detail of the gown is gorgeous!

2012 MET Gala: Best Dressed

Next to the Academy Awards, the MET Gala, this year honoring Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, is probably my most looked forward to fashion event. Stars and designers really step up their game, and the result is a fashion lover's dream. I was impressed with so many of this year's looks! So many stars, so many amazing gowns!! But along with so many hits, there were some monumental misses (Worst Dressed post coming soon - haven't done one of those in a while!). Because it was so difficult for me to rank the looks, instead of my usual Top 10, here are my 15 favorite looks in no particular order (except for the first two).

Ashley Greene - Donna Karan Atelier
My favorite look of the night! She looks head-to-toe flawless.

Nina Dobrev - Donna Karan Atelier
Nina kills it (as usual) at her first MET Gala appearance.

Scarlett Johansson - Dolce & Gabbana
I like it, but probably would have looked even better with soft pink lips.

Gisele Bundchen (with Tom Brady) - Givenchy
I feel like I've definitely seen this dress before, but it's gorgeous and she rocks it either way.

Amy Adams - Giambattista Valli Haute Couture
Classic and simple, she looks so lovely and elegant.

Marion Cotillard - Christian Dior
Not sure what's going on with her hair, but I love the gradient effect of the gown.

Emily Blunt (with John Krasinski) - Calvin Klein
I love the color and the back looks amazing!

Emma Roberts - Escada
Another great bold color, I love that she paired it with the thin royal blue belt.

Dianna Agron - Caroline Herrara
I love how soft and feminine this look is - and again, amazing color!

Jessica Alba - Michael Kors
Love the Old Hollywood 1940s look with retro curls and ruby red lips.

January Jones - Versace
I can't help but think Silk Spectre from Watchmen, but she does look great.

Katharine McPhee - Elie Saab
She looks phenomenal in this so-on-trend tangerine color.

Hilary Swank - Michael Kors
Love the rushing and color (there seems to be a trend here), although I probably would have styled it a little differently.
Lea Michele - Diane von Furstenburg
Still think she's trying too hard, but I love the color on her and the fit is great.

Rashida Jones - Tory Burch
The dress is pretty and all, but this is probably more on my list because I love Rashida so much <3

2012 People’s Choice Awards: Best Dressed

Can you believe it's already awards season? The People’s Choice Awards kicked things off Wednesday, followed by Thursday's Critic’s Choice Awards, culminating in tomorrow's Golden Globes ceremony– phew! The celebrity stylists must be going crazy this week! I wasn't incredibly wowed at the People's Choice Awards, but I do feel like the stars stepped up this year compared to last so I'm optimistic. What I really loved at the People's Choice Awards were the variety of looks. We saw long gowns and knee-length cocktail dresses, long sleeves and strapless, sparkles and lace, sleek hair and waves, up-dos and down, natural and intense makeup, even a tuxedo was thrown in. Let's hope the stars only continue to top themselves this season. Here are my top 5 favorite looks of the night.

#1 – Jennifer Lawrence – Viktor & Rolf
Jennifer, or as a friend of mine likes to call her, J.Law, looked absolutely stunning in her structured, cobalt Viktor and Rolf dress. When she walked onto the stage with co-star Liam Hemsworth, I literally cheered and was taken aback by just how incredibly gorgeous she really is. I do find it slightly humorous that “the girl on fire” was wearing what appears to be a water-inspired dress – perhaps this is how Cinna would have dressed Katniss while she and Peeta were visiting Distict 4 (speaking of which, were there seriously no pictures of her and Josh Hutcherson together??)? Okay, sorry, enough Hunger Games talk. Back to the dress - she paired it with black Sergio Rossi shoes and Jack Vartanian jewelry. Topping off her striking look, was a simple but sleek ponytail, intense smokey eyes and light peachy lips.

#2 – Nina Dobrev – Elie Saab
As usual, the red carpet star and People's Choice award winner looked effortlessly flawless in her emerald Elie Saab cocktail dress and shoes. Nina was one of several celebs who were rocking the ulta-flattering color of the night, green, as well as the recently Trendspotted lace long sleeves. She accessorized her look with a Lauren Merkin clutch and J. Mademe jewelry, and kept her hair and makeup simple with sleek, straight hair and natural makeup.

#3 - Miley Cyrus – David Koma
I will admit, I’m not a big fan of Miley or the majority of her style choices, but she really killed it that night. With her simple and chic ivory David Koma dress, she looked like a classy young lady instead of a rebellious teen trying too hard. Even with it’s sheer paneling and plunging V-neckline, the dress exuded sophistication, especially when paired with minimumal accessories (Jimmy Choo shoes, Neil Lane jewels and a Marchesa clutch), sideswept waves, and fresh makeup. Love the pleated detailing on the dress too. Keep this up, Miley!

#4 – Emma Stone – Gucci
Always a fashion frontrunner, Emma paired a stylish kelly green, black lapel Gucci tuxedo jacket with a white blouse and perfectly tailored black trousers. I don't know how many people could've pulled it off, but she totally owned it, never looking more confident. I love how she kept it casual but classy and that color is simply amazing on her against her red hair. Thanks, Emma, for mixing things up a bit and your win, as well.

#5 - Demi Lovato - Marchesa
Demi looked very grown up (maybe a little too much) in this gorgeous peach strapless Marchesa gown.  It certainly showed off all her curves, and I love the embellished bodice that brings attentions to her slim waist. She paired the gown with Christian Louboutin heels, a Marchesa clutch, and Roseark jewels. I especially adore her hair and makeup - her hair is pulled back into an exquisite bun and her makeup is simply flawless. Despite all these good things, I do think her and the dress, while both lovely, are a little miss-matched for each other, and I would have preferred her in another gown and the dress on someone else.

Trendspotting: Green With Envy

No need to wait till St. Patrick’s Day! The People’s Choice Awards introduced a hot new color for the Spring – GREEN! Award winners Emma Stone, Nina Dobrev, and Chloe Moretz all wore the color of the night in a range of universally flattering shades from emerald to jade. As demonstrated by these lovely ladies, it’s popularity can probably be attributed to the fact that it works for every hair color and really complements whatever your makeup, whether it be natural or bold.

Are you GREEN with envy? Who wore the shade best?

2011 Emmy Awards: Best Dressed

The Primetime Emmy Awards is one of my favorite award shows. Not because the show itself is anything special - it was actually a bit of a snoozefest this year - but because I probably know and, thus, root for the nominees more than I do for, say, the Oscars or Grammys. Plus, I love seeing all my favorite TV stars all glammed up on the red carpet. While I've been pretty underwhelmed with a lot of this year's red carpet fashion, I was happily surprised with the Emmys. The actors really stepped up their game. The color of the night was definitely red, and sparkles (via sequins and beading) were a big trend. On to my favorite looks:

#1 – Nina Dobrev – Donna Karan
Nina Dobrev tops my best dressed list yet again! She looked drop dead gorgeous in a strapless red mermaid gown by Donna Karan. I love that the gown is all at once simple yet complex. I can’t stop looking at the hem – is it ruffles? layers? pleats? - it’s just so unique. Her hair, makeup, and accessories are also flawless, as usual. With such a showstopping gown, she was smart and kept accessories at a mininum with an impressive Neil Lane necklace and a Judith Leiber clutch. Perfect waves and smokey eyes complete this Emmy-worthy look.

 #2 – Julia Stiles – Georges Hobeika
Julia Stiles has been making some great fashion choices and the Emmys was no different. I adored her lavender lace George Hobeika gown. The pretty color perfectly complements her fair skin tone. I also love the juxtaposition of the edgy black nails and metallic Kotur clutch with the soft and very feminine gown and loose waves. Her makeup is spot-on with dark smokey eyes and light pink lips.

#3 – Jennifer Carpenter – Tony Ward Couture
Glitzy beading was a big trend at the Emmys and no one did it better than Jennifer Carpenter who stunned in a blush beaded gown by Tony Ward Couture accompanied by Martin Katz jewelry. With a thigh high slit and plunging neckline, it was definitely one of the most provocative gowns on the red carpet, but she manages to pull it off and still look classy. I also love her loose, ombre' waves and makeup.

#4 – Sofia Vergara – Vera Wang
The beautiful Sofia Vergara showed off her curves in a coral one-shouldered gown by Vera Wang. The color is very flattering, and I like the ruching of the chiffon. She said the most exciting part of her outfit were her “Columbia emeralds” and I have to agree – they’re fabulous! Her hair was done is long waves and her makeup consisted of dramatic eyes and bright red lips.

#5 – Cat Deeley – Monique Lhuillier
You can tell Cat loves to have fun with fashion, whether on her show or at a fashion event. At the Emmys, she wore a beautiful gold-flecked beaded and tulle strapless gown by Monique Lhulier. I love how the beading starts dense at the top and spreads out as it goes down, creating a somewhat ombre' effect. She completes her look with beachy waves, fresh makeup, and Bulgari diamonds.

#6 – Claire Danes – Oscar de la Renta
Claire Danes wore a blue and black sequinned Oscar de la Renta column gown. I love the colors and patterns and how it pops against her skin and blonde hair. Speaking of which, her hair looks amazing, but I think her makeup is a little too much. The dark eyes and red lips together is a bit harsh for her and makes her look older. This is the only negative in an otherwise great look.

 #7 – Kerry Washington – Zuhair Murad
Kerry Washington looked fierce and glamourous in a strapless Zuhair Murad gown with matching scarlet Jimmy Choo shoes and clutch. I love the shape of the neckline, the beaded bodice, and the shirred bottom. Her hair is retro chic and her makeup is sheer perfection with big lashes and bold red lips -  and can I just point out how flawless her complexion is?

 #8 - Elisabeth Moss - Marchesa
Elisabeth Moss looked lovely in a fabulous gold and nude Marchesa gown. I especially love how the embroidery gives the illusion of sleeves and the pattern as it goes down the gown is beautiful. I'm a fan of her fresh and light makeup, but not so much her matronly hair.

#9 – Evan Rachel Wood – Elie Saab
Evan Rachel Wood channeled Old Hollywood with a black bead-encrusted Elie Saab gown, Fred Leighton jewels, and a Judith Leiber bag. I'm not a huge fan of cap sleeves, but I like the exposed back. Her glowing porcelain skin, retro hair, and red lips finished off the look.

#10 - Julie Bowen - Oscar de la Renta
Emmy winner Julie Bowen shined in a silver embellished column gown by Oscar de la Renta. It showed off her perfectly toned body and she quite literally looks like she's glowing. Her silver smokey makeup and sleek ponytail are the perfect touches to the outfit.

Honorable Mentions - Aubrey Plaza & Jane Lynch
Along with my Top 10 choices, I wanted to include Aubrey Plaza and Jane Lynch. Aubrey Plaza looks divine in an all white Juan Carlos Obando gown. The halter neckline shows off her great shoulders, and her hair and makeup add a touch of sultriness to this sweet ensemble. Jane looked better than ever in a deep purple David Meister gown that was simple, elegant and oh so flattering. Her hair and makeup are stellar and the Lorraine Schwartz jewels are just the right accessories to finish the look. Bravo, ladies!
