2012 People's Choice Awards

The People’s Choice Awards is next week on January 11th! As I stated last year, it’s not one of my favorite award shows because, frankly, I find a lot of the things it rewards are undeserving (Twilight: Eclipse won favorite movie last year – really??). But I guess I keep forgetting that the awards are for “FAVORITE Movie/TV/Music….” instead of “BEST Fill-in-the-Blank.”

Either way, the “awards” aren’t going to be the reason I’m watching... Of course, there’s the fashion! I’m pumped about the first big celebrity fashion gathering of the new year. BUT what I’m MOST excited about is seeing The Hunger Games cast trio finally together for the first time! I’m crossing my fingers that they might even show some new footage. Doubtful, but I can dream!

Now, just for funzies, I went through some of the many categories and gave my picks (within the confines of the oftentimes restricting and limited nominee list):

Carrot Cake & Frosting

My dad, sister, and I had several baking nights over Christmas break. On one of these nights, we decided to make a carrot cake with homemade frosting, using a recipe he had found on allrecipes.com. It's an excellent recipe and makes a delicious, moist cake that even finicky eaters (like my sister who won't eat pecans in anything else) will love.

 Ingredients:

• 4 eggs
• 1 ¼ cup vegetable oil
• 2 cups sugar
• 2 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 3 cups grated carrots
• 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

1. Beat eggs, oil, sugar, and vanilla.
2. Mix in flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
3. Stir in carrots. If needed, cut them up into smaller pieces.
4. Fold in pecans. Feel free to chop these up into smaller pieces, as well.
5. Pour mixture into greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.
6. Bake at 350 degrees F 40-50 minutes.
7. Cool for 10 minutes in pan, then turn out on wire rack cool.

 Frosting Ingredients:

• ½ cup butter, softened
• 8 oz cream cheese
• 4 cups confectioners sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Directions: 

1. Beat butter, cream cheese, and vanilla.
2. Mix in confectioners sugar until smooth and creamy.
3. Frost cake, cut yourself a piece, and ENJOY!

2012 New Year's Resolutions/Goals

Although I spent NYE in my PJ's at home lol, I wanted to create a make up look that could be worn on NYE :)

I've decided to completely embrace this new year & make resolutions for the first time!
Theres something about new years that gives you an excuse to have a 'fresh start' - start a gym, stop letting something get to you, take up a new hobbie or take a leap of faith! 
I've always been stubborn and thought 'My new years resolution is to not have any resolutions' as I thought that I would change/diet/excercise/de-stress when needed.
This year however I feel completely different. I feel like I want goals to spur me on, I want to get out of ruts, I want to jump on my cross trainer to burn off the christmas indulgence lol!
I'm really excited for this year as hopefully there will be lots of good changes, I'm feeling really positive eek! Thank you everyone for taking the time to read my blog this past year, I hope everyone had a lovely new years xx

New Year, New Name

Hello, all!! Happy New Year!! What happened to XOXO, Amanda? Well, with the new year, I decided to go with a new name (again). I'm sorry I'm doing this again, but I want a name that gives readers an idea of who I am and what they might be reading about on my blog...which after a lot of thought, led me to the name Geeky Fashionista. While fashion is certainly a huge part of life and something I love, my biggest passion has always been my geeky interests. Being named after Mr. Spock's mother, I guess it was just inevitable that I would join my father as a hardcore Trekkie and then branch off to discover the awesomeness that is Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Supernatural, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Joss Whedon, anime, comic books, video games, etc. Growing up, I didn't know too many girls who shared my geeky passions, but I'm happy to see that being "geeky" or "nerdy" is now becoming more popular and mainstream. While what I write about will still be relatively the same as before, look out for more pop culture posts this year (with an emphasis on The Hunger Games, The Avengers, and The Amazing Spider-man) as I try to incorporate some geekiness with fashion talk :) Thanks for reading!

2011 New Year's Eve

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all are as excited for 2012 as I am! Between graduating, possibly two internships, my roommate's wedding, Comic Con, and the release of several of my most highly-anticipated movies, this year is looking pretty freaking fantastic.

So how did I say adios to 2011? With the people I love most: my dad and sister. The highlight of our night consisted of 82 sparklers and a camera with time lapse. For about two hours, leading up to midnight where we watched the ball drop, we experimented with the camera and sparklers, creating shapes and designs, writing our names and "Happy New Year's, and even trying to recreate a Harry Potter wand battle. What started off as something silly turned out to be a night of memories I'll never forget with my family. Here are just a few out of the 200+ pictures we took that night.

Thought I would post a quick NOTD, Nails Inc - Park lane is a lovely lilac glitter.

I'll be posting my NYE make up soon, I'm not actually going out tonight though, im in my PJ's already lol, drinking hot chocolate with a full face of sparkly make up! Im planning to make a Veggie roast soon (Quorn roast, roast pots and veggies), toast the new years at midnight with my bf and then go to bed haha!
